Design Lives Here – Australian interiors, furniture and lighting

Somehow, during last year’s COVID blur, we missed this stunning book by Penny Craswell. Described as the ultimate source book for Australian design, it includes the best of Australian contemporary interiors, furniture, lighting and bespoke objects, and features beautiful homes by some of our own favourite interior designers and architects.

Australian design has forged its own unique trajectory, influenced by geographic isolation, a distinctive natural environment and a modern sensibility. Design Lives Here showcases the best of Australian residential architecture and interiors while paying homage to the local designers and makers who have crafted bespoke pieces of furniture and lighting for the featured homes.

Sustainability and environmental considerations are high priorities and Design Lives Here shows just how capable and talented Australian designers and architects are in this area. The book covers new builds, renovations and adaptive reuse of existing buildings and all the projects are well documented, allowing us to cherry pick or adapt details, no matter the size of our budgets.

‘Featuring houses and apartments big and small, Design Lives Here tells a valuable story about Australian design and the interaction between furniture, lighting and the home’ – Houses Magazine

From a re-imagined Californian bungalow with a dining table inspired by the humble HB pencil to a monumental inner-city residence furnished with more than 100 custom pieces, these houses – and the objects that reside within – offer a compelling snapshot of contemporary Australian design through the lens of materiality, utility, site and place.
