The Mood

A calm and light coastal gathering that draws inspiration from the flotsam and jetsam of the sea. The salty spray of the ocean and gentle breezes set the perfect tone, and the palest gold of the setting sun paints the sky in ethereal hues. A weathered wooden table, adorned with freeform, handmade tableware, takes center stage. Like treasures washed ashore, the tableware echoes the sea’s influence, evoking a sense of organic beauty and simplicity. The menu is a celebration of the sea’s bounty. Platters of succulent seafood, accompanied by vibrant salads bursting with local flavors and rustic bread. Cool glasses of crisp white wine add a touch of summer indulgence. Relish the unhurried moments, guests take breaks to wander down to the cool ocean for refreshing dips. The ocean, with its rhythmic ebb and flow, synchronises with the gathering’s relaxed pace. As the sun dips below the horizon, casting a soft, golden glow over the table, the sense of connection and contentment deepens and the gathering continues by candlelight, carrying the warmth of the day into the evening.

The Poem Inspiration

Terra Australis by James McAuley

Voyage within you, on the fabled ocean,
And you will find the Southern Continent,
Quiro’s vision – the hidalgo heart
And mythical Australia, where reside
All things in the imagined counterpart.

It is your land of similes: the wattle
Scatters the pollen of the doubting heart;
The flowers are wide-awake; the air gives ease.
There you come home; the magpies call you Jack
And whistle like larrikins at you from the trees.

The Botanicals

Keep it fresh and simple. Above the table, an installation of dried Honesty from our friend Suzy’s garden. On the table, more Honesty in salvaged fishing corks. Single stems of white florals, fresh lemons. You could also add coastal rosemary or banksia.

On the table

White linen cloth and nautical striped napkins, casually tied in a knot. Rustic white tableware from our friend Brian the Potter, a scattering of shells and driftwood, natural beeswax in SWC Heirloom Gumnut Stoppers and vintage bottles, silver or chrome cutlery, gold-rimmed glassware from Vinnies.

Gifts for guests

Jewel Sea Art Boxes for lovers of salt and sun. We added a simple string tie with found shell. SWC Heirloom pieces for keeping – Think reclaimed wood, forged brass, translucent porcelain, rustic pottery and of course, artisan candles.

For a little twist

Add fresh sculptural pineapples, gold and white checked napkins, glass candle holders and a touch of pale green. For change up in scent, layer Sunshine with amber solaire, coconut cream, fresh pineapple in candles and matching room & linen mist.

Add a handwritten note

For sending or keeping, use vintage postcards for place cards, or write a lovely note and top with a lovely shell.
