How we try to minimise the impact of Southern Wild Co on the environment
Recently, we’ve had lots of enquiries about our packaging – about the packaging our candles come in and the packaging we post them out in. We want you to know we have put a lot of thought into how we can package Southern Wild Co products. We care very deeply about the environment and try to minimise the impact of our brand on it wherever we can. Here are some of the small steps we take:
Our product packaging
- Our paper candle tubes are both recyclable and biodegradable. Not only are they designed to protect our glass candles in transit, they feature beautiful Australian artwork and photography and are designed as keepsakes.
- Our travel tins are made of 100% infinitely recyclable aluminium.
- Our poetry glass vessels are made from 100% recycled glass. Both our tubes and glass vessels are beautiful objects in their own right and we encourage repurposing them after use.
- Our premium canvas bags are made from 100% heavy duty cotton and are designed for reuse. We reuse our smaller bags for transporting jewellery and valuables when travelling; the large bags for transporting shoes or underwear.
Packing

To cushion our products in transit, we use biodegradable starch-based packing peanuts made from natural, nontoxic sources, such as wheat and corn starch. They dissolve in water and can be thrown into compost piles after a single use, which is better than waiting 500 years or more for the polystyrene versions. In addition, biodegradable foam peanuts do not have an electrostatic charge, meaning they will not stick to clothes. We collect them, along with our bigger packing boxes, from our local bookstores in the Blue Mountains and recycle them.

Our mailing boxes are 100% Australian-made, biodegradable and plastic-free. Biodegradable boxes can be composted and turned back into soil in less than 12 weeks.

The tissue paper we use to wrap our products in is made out of 100% recycled paper.

All our printed collateral is printed on environmentally friendly paper, by sustainable-focused printers. We print on uncoated, 100% post-consumer or 100% recycled paper and use vegetable-based inks.

As our Southern Wild Co journey evolves, we will continue to research and offer more sustainable packaging options wherever we can.
